Work, work, work with some lambing on the side

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Time sure fly’s when you’re having fun! The last several weeks (OK months) have been dedicated to marketing, budgeting and planning for this year. I’m happy to say that we’re pretty much finalized on this year’s decisions and beginning to look forward to 2012. Unfortunately, it’s all still a bit ‘under the covers’. I promise an update when we can.

I will say, one of the best parts of my work these days is that I get to travel to some pretty interesting places – usually involving sheep (soon to include goats) and people. Last week I spent two days with the team of Imperial Yarn at the Ranch. Did I mention it was lambing? We managed to sneak out to the lambing barn and pens during lunch on Friday.

Anna Cohen, Imperial Yarn’s Creative Director. Hint – some fabulous designs coming from her and the team for June TNNA.

Carol. She’s coming up to speed quickly. She’ll be tackling a lot of the social media for IY. She’s also Jeanne’s sister-in-law and knows the story. Hands down.

Did I mention it was about 10 degrees AND windy. How these little guys and gals stand the weather. Man. I don’t know. I personally thought the little one sleeping on top of the sheep dog in the background had the best spot. Wind control and fur. Can’t beat that. This group of lambs was about 5 days old. The lambing crew moves ewes and lambs through about 5-7 stations to make sure they’re healthy before they move them onto open range.

This one just had my heart at go. She’s not quite a day old and kept playing hide and seek behind mama. When she finally came out the look on her face was priceless. Who are YOU? Mama was a bit skeptical.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of Keelia and the warehouse crew. What a great group of ladies. We had so much fun helping them pack a HUGE order for Brooklyn General Store. It shipped this week. Can I just say. Next time I’m in NY, I’m making a beeline for this place!

Other than that. I’m head down with Nihon Vogue. I have two sides to knit by next week. Hopefully since it’s on size 8′s it will go fast. Let’s hope so. I think I’ve finally sorted out which yarn I’m using for the Aran. I’ve switched to Black Water Abbey Yarns from Ireland. Still plan to use the Starmore for the Guernsey.
PS: Many have asked the breed of sheep. Columbia.
